Presentation
The fashion industry is full of great ideas: ideas that require technical and material knowledge to become reality. In this course we will explore the different modelling techniques, processes, and tools so that we can bring those ideas to fruition.
Throughout the course we will bring knowledge and practical skill together, so as to ensure a more peripheral understanding of the cutting and sewing system.
The course is aimed at designers and those who want to experiment with textiles in order to expand their knowledge and learn about prototyping tools.
Objectives
The objective of the course is provide students with the techniques, tools, and processes needed to bring a textiles project to fruition.
Syllabus
1. Volumetry and body.
Introduction to volume from textiles. How the application of volume in clothing can deform, alter, and enhance bodies, transforming society and the public image of the individual.
Contemporary tour of silhouettes:
- Anatomical silhouette
- Dressed silhouette
- Social silhouette
- Political silhouette
2. Context of practice
- Basic principles of creating volume from the plane.
- Introduction and classification of different sewing machines.
- Classification of the different basic seams.
- Classification and typologies of fabrics.
3. Practice
- Volume
- Volume techniques applied to textiles.
- Adaptation of seams as a function of the fabric.
- Decorated space
- Introduction to patterns.
- Introduction to modelling.
- Planning and execution for the cutting and formulation of a prototype.
