Professional activity and/or experience

Gala Hernández López is an artist-researcher and film-maker. Her work brings together interdisciplinary research with the production of essay films, video installations, and performances about the new forms of subjectification produced specifically by computational digital capitalism. From a feminist and critical perspective, she examines the discourses and imaginations that circulate in virtual communities as symptomatic fictions of a state of the world. Her work has been shown at DOK Leipzig, Cinéma du Réel, IndieLisboa, the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the Ducato Prize Exhibition, and the Salon de Montrouge, among other events. Her film "La mecánica de los fluidos" (“The Mechanics of Fluids”) has been chosen for the Cesar 2024 awards and won the 2023 Experimental Work Prize awarded by SCAM (France), among a dozen awards. Participated in the Berlinale Talents 2023 and IDF Academy 2023. She is a PhD candidate at Université Paris 8, where she is developing a research-creation project on screen capture and has been a teacher for three years. She has been an associate professor (ATER) at the Université Gustave Eiffel and a visiting researcher at the Film Universität Babelsberg Konrad Wolf (Germany), courtesy of a research grant from the DAAD. In 2023-2024, she is a resident artist at the Académie de France in Madrid (Casa de Velázquez). She co-directs the research and creation group After Social Networks (www.after-social-networks.com). In 2023, she was resident artist at La Métive (FR), Videoformes (FR), and Maison Artagon (FR). Gala regularly gives workshops and lectures-performances in places such as the Film Universität Konrad Wolf, Beaux-Arts de Marseille, The Photographers Gallery, and the Locarno Film Festival.
