Master in Graphic Communication Design

A program designed to train competent professionals in communication strategies in digital environments, respecting brand values and taking into account the contemporary relevance of user experience.

Presentation

This master's program trains international and creative profiles in graphic design and visual communication practice using a digital and a completely contemporary perspective which include the most disruptive concepts.

The structure of the curriculum is both artistic and technical, with an individualized follow-up and a global pedagogical vision, where real cases and the company are essential in the program's development.

The classroom is designed as a space for research, experimentation, innovation and entrepreneurship, with a significant number of workshops conducted by different professionals from the sector.

The master's degree helps to understand, conceptualize and design digital graphic communication solutions from a functional perspective, always encouraging creativity and individual expression of the creative practice with a strategic professional support.

The program is aimed at Bachelor's degree students and students of other university studies related to the world of design, visual arts, creativity, photography, illustration, advertising and communication.

It is also aimed at professionals with previous experience, graphic design software skills, and a portfolio related to graphic design and visual communication.

Syllabus

The five main elements of the master's degree are: the ideation and conceptualization of a digital project; design software tools and skills as well as their relationship with the typology of each project; project practice based on different types of commercial assignments; research and development of a strategy focused on the users and digital interfaces they use; and the capacity to communicate the project with entrepreneurial values.

The course methodology includes classes with theoretical and practical formalization, guest lectures, creation and innovation workshops, group training tutorials and individual tutorials focused on the Final Project.

Learning and evaluation activities will be carried out through the written and video content, readings, case studies, group workshops, individual and group works, semi-professional assignments, real cases with invited companies, and oral presentations. In addition, students will have access to a common digital environment (Virtual Campus) as a repository for the classes.

Module 1 - Graphic Design Basics

This module unfolds a wide range of artistic and design references and project principles in order to enable the students to assume professional assignments in graphic design and visual communication.

It works on creativity to initiate projects in digital formats. It also transmits a typographic base to develop any graphic design project, both analogical and digital.

Module 2 - Digital Graphic Tools

This module trains students in basic graphic and audiovisual design programs and software to provide them with material and technological resources for prototyping and formalization of the projects.

Module 3 - Branding and Digital Strategy

This module delves into what a brand really is and what values it is made of. It includes knowledge about different technology interfaces that exist for the user experience with a brand, and it works on creativity to start a digital project with the right brand values.

This module trains students in different kinds of real professionally commissioned projects. It also trains them to transfer these projects from analogical to digital environment. This module combines the mastery of technological tools and technical knowledge for real graphic design projects with the basics of programming and web development in accordance with the user experience and the diversity of interfaces.

This module enables students to understand the online communication in a contemporary manner and to understand different opportunities and needs that a user - who is always considered the center of the narrative and the main prescriber - may have.

Real cases are presented to students to provide them with artistic, design and entrepreneurial references at different levels. Total cost of the course: 9.800 €

The total cost includes an amount of 200 € concerning the university fees, the administration expenses and the compulsory insurances.

Payment methods

BAU, Arts and Design College of Barcelona offers different terms of payment:

  • Single payment

  • Part payment, in 3 instalments:
    • 1st payment, due on enrolment: consisting of 40 % of the fees excluding taxes. An amount of 200 € concerning the university fees is added to the resulting cost
    • 2nd payment, due November 5: consisting of 30% of the course excluding taxes
    • 3rd payment, due January 5: consisting of 30 % of the course excluding taxes

Students and former students of BAU benefit from 10% discount on any of the courses if they have exceeded at least 50% of the credits for a Degree, Higher Degree in Design or the Diploma in Graphic Design; or 100% of the credits for any of the Master’s or Postgraduate degrees.
