Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts

Introduction. Discovery. Location.

In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamental aspects of artistic practice and of study in the fine arts. Students are offered a panoramic view of techniques and technologies, grouped into workshops that address two-dimensional practices (such as photography and painting), three-dimensional practices (such as sculptures and digital production), and those based on time (such as audiovisual work and performance). Theory is treated as a dimension inseparable from practice, and each student starts to explore and articulate their own interests through processes and projects.

In particular, the focus of the first year is on the communicative aspects of artistic work. Students learn how to present ideas, processes, and results, showing and explaining their work using graphics, text, audiovisual resources, and performance. Through visits and excursions, students are introduced to the operation of professional, institutional, and economic contexts of art.

Self-awareness. Experimentation. Contextualisation.

In the second year, the practice of each student expands through experimentation with a wide repertoire of techniques and technologies, with students developing their own ideas from observation, research, analysis, and experience. The link between theory, practice, and research is explored in greater depth, as is knowledge about the transformation of artistic practices throughout history.

This year, students are introduced to writing as a transversal tool and knowledge of the English language in the professional field. There is an emphasis on the importance of building a strong sense of community, with group work and collective and collaborative practices are encouraged, as is as the need to share processes and results, with a first experience organising an exhibition event open to the general public.

Finally, through excursions and field trips, students learn about other communities and practices beyond the institutional contexts of art.

Knowledge. Professionalisation. Socialisation.

In the third year, the panoramic vision developed in the first two years allows students to consolidate and focus their practice, opening it up to a wider audience for the first time through a first exhibition and curatorial experience outside the academic context.

The purpose of each elective is for each student to perfect the knowledge of techniques already addressed, or to begin to accumulate knowledge of other areas, according to their preferences. This technical and procedural specialisation intersects with subjects that being art into contact with the humanities, sciences, and technology.

Finally, seminars bring students into contact with active artists.

Final Project. Research. Situated Practice.

In the final year, the work of each student has matured: they have defined the languages, techniques, and media that are relevant to their practice, as well as the themes they wish to address. The active questioning of the role of the artist and of art in society, its articulation in specific employment contexts, catalyses the uniqueness of each student, as reflected in their approach to research, doing, and presenting.

In this year, students must complete an external internship that will allow them to get close to a professional environment.

Finally, each student consolidates the skills and knowledge acquired in an integration process that culminates in the Final Project, the first project in their professional career.

Advanced Languages, Techniques and Technologies

The optional subjects of the Advanced Languages, Techniques and Technologies block allow for technical specialization according to the preferences of each student. They offer the possibility of deepening the understanding and improvement of techniques and technologies that have already been experienced or the possibility of initiating students into the knowledge of others, being able to choose those that are most relevant for their own practice.

These studio and practical experimentation subjects connect learning about the characteristics and behaviors of different materials with techniques and languages. They do so by observing the different artistic frames of reference, both contemporary and historical, which allow us to put into perspective the ways of doing with a more extensive and complex context.

Critical Practices and Contemporary Debates

The optional subjects of the Critical Practices and Contemporary Debates block delve into the connection between art and other areas of knowledge with an interdisciplinary perspective.

These subjects allow the development of research tools and thematic specialization, fostering a situated understanding of artistic practice and approaching the debates of the present and the future from the fields of Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities.
