Introduction. Discovery. Location.

The first year is a period of opening up and discovery. Students delve into the foundations of artistic practice and Fine Arts studies, exploring different ways of making, thinking and positioning themselves. Through a broad-based approach to techniques, technologies and languages, a process of personal research begins that relates practice and theory as inseparable dimensions of artistic work.

This first year places a special emphasis on the communication of work. Students learn to present ideas, processes and results through graphic, textual, audiovisual and performative formats. Visits and trips introduce the workings of the main professional, institutional and economic contexts of art, offering a first contact with the world outside the university.

Self-awareness. Experimentation. Contextualisation.

The guidance of each student and their own self-awareness make the second year of university the time to expand their artistic practice and become aware of it. Students delve deeper into developing their own ideas through observation, reflection and experimentation, while establishing stronger links between theory, practice and research. Furthermore, the knowledge gained of the historical transformations of art helps to situate individual practice within a broad, critical framework.

During the second year, writing is also promoted as a cross-cutting tool and English as a working language in the professional sphere. The sense of community is reinforced through collaborative work and the sharing of processes and results, with the organisation of a first exhibition event open to the public. Field trips and fieldwork allow students to learn about other practices and communities beyond institutional circuits.

Knowledge. Professionalisation. Socialisation.

The third year marks a turning point towards the consolidation of each student's own artistic practice. Students begin to individualise their work and open it up to new contexts beyond the university environment, taking on greater responsibility for what they produce and exhibit. Contact with practising artists through seminars broadens their professional references and perspectives.

The structure of the curriculum for this third year provides students with a wide range of optional modules to deepen techniques and technologies already explored or to explore new alternatives, according to their personal interests. This specialisation is complemented by modules that connect art with the humanities, sciences and technologies, broadening the frameworks for thought and action.

Final Project. Research. Situated Practice.

The maturity of each student's artistic practice is achieved in the final year. Each student determines the languages, techniques and media that shape their proposal, as well as the themes they wish to address. Reflection on the role of the artist and of art in society, present throughout the four years of the degree, drives a situated practice and informs their way of researching, making and presenting.

Throughout the course, students undertake compulsory external placements that bring them into professional environments and into the reality of the sector as it exists in the world of work. The process culminates in the Final Degree Project, an integrative project that synthesises the knowledge and skills acquired and constitutes the first step in their own artistic and professional journey.

Advanced Languages, Techniques and Technologies

The optional subjects of the Advanced Languages, Techniques and Technologies block allow for technical specialization according to the preferences of each student. They offer the possibility of deepening the understanding and improvement of techniques and technologies that have already been experienced or the possibility of initiating students into the knowledge of others, being able to choose those that are most relevant for their own practice.

These studio and practical experimentation subjects connect learning about the characteristics and behaviors of different materials with techniques and languages. They do so by observing the different artistic frames of reference, both contemporary and historical, which allow us to put into perspective the ways of doing with a more extensive and complex context.

Critical Practices and Contemporary Debates

The optional subjects of the Critical Practices and Contemporary Debates block delve into the connection between art and other areas of knowledge with an interdisciplinary perspective.

These subjects allow the development of research tools and thematic specialization, fostering a situated understanding of artistic practice and approaching the debates of the present and the future from the fields of Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities.
