BAU Design College of Barcelona was born in 1989. As a result of the concerns of a group of professional designers holding a strong educational and teaching vocation, a modern, innovative and multi-disciplinary high-level studies centre of Design is established in Barcelona to complement the models of more traditional and academic training centres existing at that time.Located in Barcelona, one of the leading cities in the field of design, and faithful to its ground-breaking spirit, in 2003 BAU commits itself to a move to the 22@ district, now the innovation and design district of the city. A magnificent industrial area of over 6,000 m2 is restored, and specific spaces are prepared for teaching and experimenting, with classrooms and multi-purpose spaces designed to promote research, creation and innovation, its house brand. In 2009, within the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), BAU consolidates its proposal by affiliating itself with the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia (UVIC-UCC), thus becoming a pioneering centre in providing university studies for the Bachelor’s Degree in Design. The purpose of BAU and its teachers is to train contemporary, questioning, creative, open-minded designers who are able to understand social, cultural and economic changes and are committed to society to respond to changing needs by providing strategic value to evolution and social transformation. In 2014, in celebration of BAU’s 25th anniversary, its facilities are enlarged with a new 2000 m2 building in 22@ and a new LAB space. In the thinking of BAU, it is assumed that working in small groups is essential in order to benefit from comprehensive training, teamwork and personalised attention, as well as to promote research and experimentation in a close, supportive and respectful atmosphere in which everyone has a place, to be able to enjoy enriching, valuable learning experiences.Doctors, lawyers and skilled professionals from the world of culture, advertising, art and design form a committed and quality teaching team. This results in a faculty which is enthusiastic and passionate about design and teaching, which encourages learning from experimentation and which, by combining teaching and practice, provides real and present perspective in their disciplines. The training offer at BAU materialises in university degrees (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Postgraduate) in different fields of graphic design, audio-visual, interior design and fashion. It also offers other courses such as the Diploma in Graphic Design ‘BAU Evening’, and the Summer University, in addition to a wide variety of specialised courses. The Centre takes special care to provide an expanding, continuous training, which has resulted in major international recognition that has empowered BAU to establish many links and exchange and co-operation agreements with internationally renowned universities. This substantial set of qualifications and training opportunities brings together nearly 1,000 students who form a very heterogeneous community that allows constant exchange and co-operation.

The faculty and students that form this unique centre bring a differential character to our academic project. The quality of training at BAU, which is evaluated by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU Catalunya), guarantees our present and our future.
