How to enroll

Description / Study plan of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design

The bachelor’s degree in design from Bau, Design College of Barcelona, which is attached to the Arts and Humanities branch, is built around content from culture, art, and tools.

At the end of their studies, the student is awarded a ‘Degree in Design’, an official university degree issued by the University of Vic that includes an optional specialisation in one of four training routes completed by the student as an elective subject:

  • Specialisation in Graphic Design and Visual Communication
  • Specialisation in Audiovisual Design
  • Specialisation in Interior Space Design
  • Specialisation in Fashion Design

*** In the event that a student chooses to study through the optional subjects and successfully completes more than one speciality, this will also be included in the degree.

The degree has a total number of 240 ECTS, which are divided into four academic years of 60 ECTS credits each.

All courses are biannual and each academic year consists of two semesters.

The first two courses of the Degree in Design are common for all students.

In the second year, the Graphic Expression and Introduction to Design Projects courses can be directed towards one of the training routes that are studied from year three.

From the third year, students may choose to follow one of these training routes offered by Bau: graphic design and visual communication, interior space design, audiovisual design or fashion design.

RAC credits

Among the 102 elective credits to be taken in the curriculum, students have the opportunity to earn 6 credits that are recognised as RAC. RACs are defined as the credits that students can attain for participation in university activities that are not part of the curriculum. These activities can be related to culture, sports, student representation, solidarity and cooperation.

External Internships

The syllabus of the Degree in Design from Bau includes a mandatory external internship. The Internship can be undertaken during the 7th and 8th semester of the Curriculum. This professional placement is a valuable period for training and testing, since it allows students to apply and complement the knowledge they have acquired during their undergraduate education, while preparing them for their entry into the labour market.

Final Degree Project

To obtain the degree, students will have to develop a Final Degree Project worth a total of 12 ECTS credits. This will take place during the last semester of fourth year.

General objectives of the degree

Bau works continuously on the improvement and alignment of the competencies, objectives and the teaching methodology of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design.

  • Ability to develop their own creativity through the learning of artistic languages.
  • In-depth knowledge of the socio-economic and cultural determinants events in the evolution of design and vision of the same from a critical perspective.
  • Command and management of specific tools for the development of the professional projectual process.
  • Creative, innovative, committed and responsable spirit, respect to the needs and demands of society.
  • Implementation of business, management and communication knowledge in the context of national and international design.
  • Ability to transmit, exhibit and communicate, in both orally and writing, the typical design proposals, in both the native language and in English.
  • Application of specific methodologies of research into the world of design.
  • Ability to develop design projects in teamwork and in structures of collaboration and cooperation.
  • Development of the profession from a committed attitude with sustainability and respect for the environment.

Mention election

In the last two academic years the student can diversify his curriculum by choosing optional credits of more specialized character. On the basis of optional credits, the student can choose between four specializations (mentions) to the title.
Once all the credits have been achieved, the student that has passed a minimum of 90ECTS of the same mention, he or she will immediately obtain the title with the according mention.
In the case a student passes a minimum of 90ECTS pertaining to another mention, it will also be included in the title.

Roger Vicente

Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and Digital Media Design Interface Art. Audiovisual designer and producer. Founding partner of Els Altres and The Others.

Roger works as art director and producer of audiovisual projects. He has worked on events, visual and interactive experiences, and collaborates with Onionlab and La Fábrica de Sombreros (Chupa Chups) studios. He currently works with advertising agencies such as Double You (NIKE, FC Barcelona), Grey (Danone), TBWA (Fira de Barcelona), Wunderman (Ibercaja), OgilvyOne (Mahou). He combines this work with lecturing at universities such as Elisava and BAU.

Anna Carreras

Master’s Degree in Computing for Audiovisual Media from the UPF and in Telecommunication Engineering from the UPC.

The total cost of the course depends on the number of ECTS inscribed.


The price of the ECTS credit for the 2017-18 course is 121 €.

The total amount of the course for 60 ECTS is 7.260 €
(student insurance, management fees and university fees included)

Payment conditions:

  • Single payment: If you pay the full course upon enrollment a 3% discount is applied to the total amount of the credits.
  • Installment payment: Consists of an initial payment of 2580 € (upon enrollment)
 + 9 monthly installments of 520 € (from October to June).

Registration

The registration period for the Bachelor's degree in Design for new students takes place according to the calender established by the University Preregistration office of Catalonia (Oficina de Preinscripción Universitaria de Cataluña).

The registration is done at reception at Bau Design College.

Scholarships and Grants

The official degree of the Bachelor's in Design allows students to apply for official scholarships through the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Conversely, at BAU we offer our students the possibility to collaborate in different areas of the school as interns. The people receiving this type of scholarship will be economically compensated. These opportunities are announced annually.
